The innovative solution combines the marketing potential of the outer box to enhance the perceived quality of the enclosed medication with the practicality of the inner wallet, offering space for crucial patient instructions and warning. This ensures that the vital information is easily readable, reducing the risk of misuse. By seamlessly merging the box and wallet components, this packaging solution optimizes the delivery of pharmaceuticals, striking the ideal balance between child safety and user-friendliness for adults.

‍Child-resistant and senior-friendly: The Locked4Kids wallet box uniquely bridges the gap between child safety and senior accessibility. This patented packaging solution is rigorously tested to ensure it is resilient against the clever manipulations of modern, savvy children while maintaining ease of use for adults. Its design goes beyond the traditional constraints of CR packaging, striking a perfect balance between security and usability.
Innovative design: What sets this pharmaceutical paper packaging apart is its innovative combination of box and wallet elements. The outer box not only enhances the overall strength and quality, but also serves as a marketing tool to boost the perceived value of the enclosed medication. Inside, the wallet provides enough space to present vital information like patient instructions and warnings, reducing the risk of misuse or misinterpretation.
Sustainability: The Locked4Kids wallet box is an all-paper solution which eliminates the need for plastics, reducing waste and promoting recycling. When its lifecycle is complete, the wallet can easily be separated from the blisters for the recycling of paperboard components.
‍Adaptability: Designed with end users in mind, the Locked4Kids box wallet seamlessly integrates with existing primary blisters, eliminating the need for costly modifications.
Tamper-evident security: To add an extra layer of protection, this pharmaceutical paper packaging includes a tamper-evident label. This label must be removed to access the medicine inside, ensuring secure handling from packaging to patient.

Challenges faced during the testing-phase

As children's cognitive abilities continue to evolve, meeting the requirements of child-resistance testing has become an increasingly complex challenge. Many existing solutions in the market, especially those relying on a single pushbutton and sliding mechanisms, which once passed testing, now should be reconsidered due to the enhanced problem-solving skills of today's young children.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website emphasizes that, according to the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA), the responsibility for ensuring that a product complies with special packaging requirements, including child resistance as per 16 CFR 1700.20, falls on the manufacturer of the end product.

In response to these evolving challenges, the development of this pharmaceutical paper packaging was initiated. Our initial design, featuring a single button on the top, fell short of passing the rigorous testing requirements. Even with the addition of an extra offset button on the opposite side of the packaging, we still could not meet the testing standards with children. It was only when we introduced a simple yet transformative third interactive element that our packaging successfully passed stringent child safety tests and achieved top scores in tests designed for senior-friendliness under the US protocol 16 CFR1700.20.
