Children like to explore, it is in their nature as they are growing up. They do not yet know the difference between what is good and what is bad, which makes it difficult to keep them from touching things they should not. This includes dangerous chemicals and medicine that they might accidentally ingest. The innovative child resistant packaging solution Locked4Kids developed by Ecobliss prevents children from accessing medicine that is not meant for them. Let us tell you why Locked4Kids is so revolutionary in its kind.
What is child resistant packaging?
Child resistant packaging is exactly what the name says: resistant against children. This means that the packaging is difficult for children to open, reducing the risk of them accidentally ingesting the contents of the packaging, such as medicine. The packaging is designed in a way that should make it easy for adults to open the package, but preventing children from doing so, thus protecting them. An example of child resistant packages is a bottle where the cap needs to be pushed down before twisting.
The importance of innovative child resistant packaging
As mentioned, children are curious about all things in life and like to explore them. They cannot read yet. So when they have something that is toxic or in other ways bad for them, they would not know, since they only see the packaging. Often this packaging looks very interesting due to bright colors. Naturally, they would want to play with it and try to open it. Parents cannot always be around to prevent this from happening. That is why accidental poisoning by household products and medicines remains a serious issue for young children all over the world. In the U.S. alone, more than 500,000 children under the age of five experience accidental poisoning each year. Luckily, most children survive, but this does show the importance of innovative child-resistant packaging. When children cannot open the packaging, they remain safe even when playing with it.

Why Locked4Kids is innovative in child-resistant packaging
Not all child-resistant packaging is perfect. Most of the time it means that the package is also difficult to open for adults and seniors. Especially in the U.S., where most medicine is packaged in bottles. The caps on these bottles are often hard to open, even for adults. Not to mention the limited protection against moisture and contamination once the bottle has been opened. Since seniors are a growing demographic in any country, focusing on seniors as well as children becomes more and more important.
That is why Locked4Kids is so innovative. With its innovative child resistant packaging, Locked4Kids has ensured that the package is child-resistant, but super easy to open for both adults and seniors. Besides this, the individual blisters ensure protection against moisture and contamination as the rest of the medicine stays safely packed. Read more about its benefits.
Locked4Kids is not only certified, but it has also achieved impressive results in tests. Performance requirements state that no more than 45 out of 300 children should be able to open the packaging during the first 5 minutes of testing. However, tests revealed that only 2 out of 300 children managed to open Locked4Kids cartons. This is less than 1%, while the allowable maximum is 15%.
After the auditor demonstrated the opening procedure, no more than 60 children should be able to open the cartons during the second 5-minute testing period. In tests with Locked4Kids, only 11 children managed to open the cartons. This is less than 4%, while the maximum allowable level is 20%.
Additionally, 100% of seniors were able to easily open the innovative child-resistant packaging, even without instructions. That makes Locked4Kids revolutionary in its kind, as it is not only child resistant, but also senior friendly. It keeps children safe, but does not make life more difficult for adults and seniors. A win-win!
